We would highly recommend Youngs builders to anyone. Chose Nigel Young after talking to other builders as he had good solutions to some of our issues and offered a very competitive quote. Job involved complete refit of kitchen, cloakroom, utility and hallway. It was done on time despite the quirks of our Victorian house and an accident befalling the tiler. The approach from Nigel and his team was always professional, communication was excellent and the quality of work is first class. All in all we are very pleased with the result and would definitely use Nigel again.

Being new to the area and having had nightmare experiences with previous bad builders, I must say that Youngs have restored my faith in builders. Their work is excellent, solid and built to last. They do not cut corners and encourage building inspectors to see their work (what a change!). Nigel is fantastic and will talk through any issues/changes you have in mind. Also any difficult points, they after thought, had a viable solution. Very very good. Total faith and approachability which is rare in a builder. Oh also very clean!! Ha puts other builders to shame!!!

19 Nov 2014Nigel and his team completed our loft conversion to an office, for which the stairs and joists were already in place. He provided an excellent, detailed quote (unlike the other quotes we received). Although all the plans and building regs were over 10 years old, his team completed the project to a very high standard, liaising with building control and keeping in touch regularly, letting us know what to expect each week. They were polite, friendly, hard working and tidy, and the project was completed within a few weeks. We would not hesitate to use them again or recommend their services .

Being relatively new to the area, I had unfortunately experienced poor service in the past from traders nearby and I wasn't looking forward to starting a major kitchen/dining room/external drainage refurbishment. Nigel and his team restored my faith in builders with a first class, tidy job completed on time and to a competitive quote. The project involved substantial structural improvements before a new kitchen was fitted; fitting a new window, reinforcing a bathroom floor and re-plastering my dining room. Nigel kept me informed at all stages of the project and I recommend them wholeheartedly for a job completed to a high standard with a minimum of fuss.

Nigel and his team have built us a two story extension, supplying and fitting a new kitchen and bathrooms, plus some internal reorganisation including the removal and fitting of staircases. The standard of the build and works (to an agreed price) has been high. The few inevitable unknowns that crop up when you take a house apart have always been presented back to us with suggested options and advice. We've lived on site throughout the build and the team have been amazingly considerate and tidy. Nigel has project managed the build personally and work has never ceased or staggered. Lastly, he remembers absolutely everything you agree - no reminders or nudges, things just get done. It's been a very satisfying experience and we have a lovely extension.

I have recently had a garage conversion and the work carried out was very high quality and all the tradesmen were extremely professional and polite and organised. I received detailed information of the work to be carried out and very accurate timescales and costing. Everything went like clock work. I have recommended this company to all my friends. It is quite rare to find such professional and trustworthy builders. My family were very impressed with all work and just how tidy and considerate the workers were. Youngs recently carried out a loft conversion on our late Victorian terrace. The work was completed within a very tight timeframe (our new baby was due just days after the finish date). We were given a schedule of work at the start and this was pretty much adhered to, even taking into account the terrible weather (no roof in February is not ideal!) and our family circumstances (I was pregnant, we have a four year old and our neighbours were also expecting a baby imminently). Materials were delivered in good time and arrangements with sub-contractors were communicated to us. Any changes or extras along the way were discussed and accommodated where practical.
Nigel and his team worked with us to minimise noise and disruption to our neighbours (access was required across both sides as we are in a terrace). They tidied away at the end of each day and ensured that the site was safe. The whole job was carried out with care and in a professional manner. Although Nigel was unable to be on site in person for the whole job he was always reachable and approachable. He liased with our Architect and the Councils Building Control Dept to make sure the project went smoothly.
We are very pleased with the standard of work and the finished result. We would not hesitate to recommend Youngs to our friends and we will definitely use them again in the future.

The scores relate to a 2 storey extension to a 1970's terrace house and are based on the fact that I have never had building work done before therefore I cannot give top marks since I have no baseline for comparison. However, that being said, I am more than happy with the results. The quote was fixed price and inclusive of VAT so there was no extra charges for potential over-run's. When Nigel came round to quote for the job, he was the only one to notice an issue with the rainwater soak-away on the architects plans. The build was finished a week later than I had hoped for but still within schedule (the build had to take into account 4 bank holidays). The schedule itself was tight since I had a fixed finish date which Nigel was able to accommodate. Before the build began I was given a schedule with all the contact details (including suppliers). It listed what work was to be done each week and who was doing what, together with my responsibility for making stage payments throughout the build.

5.0 out of 5 .Youngs have undertaken a number of small projects for me in 2 different properties over the last 5 years. They are always professional and will tell it to you straight!! (Which is unusual in the building trade these days.)
Their work is always of a very high standard and things in are left tidy and usable where possible in the evenings and at weekends. Youngs come when they say they will and quote an affordable price, and invoice the same.
Any changes you want to make after they have started are considered, and you are kept informed of any changes to the price, whether higher or lower.
I highly recommend youngs and will definitely be using them again.
